The Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) Cancer Network is designed to bring together key teams and professionals who provide essential cancer treatment services and the holistic care for young adults with cancer, along with support for their families and caregivers. The goal of the TYA Cancer Network is to ensure that service users can access the right care in the right place and at the right time. This encompasses access to clinical trials, whole genome sequencing, fertility services, and tissue banking. The team facilitates peer support where appropriate while coordinating a comprehensive holistic and psychosocial approach.

Cambridge University Hospital - PTC offers comprehensive cancer treatment services. Peterborough Hospital (NWAFT) is recognized as a designated hospital. Norfolk and Norwich Hospital (NNUH) also serves as a designated hospital, providing holistic care for young adults through the TYA Cancer Network. Ipswich (ESNEFT) is another designated hospital committed to these essential services.

All TYA within the East of England with a confirmed diagnosis of cancer will be referred to the TYA holistic MDT meeting led by Addenbrookes, ensuring they receive age-appropriate support while undergoing cancer treatment services for their disease.
Addenbrookes Hospital serves as the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) for TYA. When young adults are receiving SACT* treatment as inpatients, it typically occurs on ward C9, the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit, where holistic care for young adults is prioritized.
Patients will have regular consultations with their clinical team and members of the TYA Cancer Network in oncology outpatients to monitor their progress and provide comprehensive support.
*SACT-Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (often chemotherapy)

Depending on their disease, patients aged 19 to 24 years may be offered a choice of where to receive their cancer treatment services. This flexibility allows them to receive their treatment at one of the hospitals in the region, known as Designated Hospitals. Each of these Designated Hospitals has a dedicated TYA CNS to support local patients. In the East of England, there are 3 Designated Hospitals - see map above. Regardless of where TYA patients are treated, they can access holistic care for young adults and support through referral to the regional TYA Cancer Network.

Young people aged 16-18 will be referred to Addenbrooke’s to receive their cancer treatment services. Patients who are 19, up to their 25th birthday, may be offered the choice of receiving their treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital or at a Designated Hospital closer to home, depending on the type of cancer. This approach ensures that young adults benefit from holistic care for young adults through the TYA Cancer Network.
